About Time
The London School of Architecture’s cohort of 2022-24 present their graduate exhibition About Time.
The exhibition is a collective response to the critical and inextricably linked issues and challenges of our time. From global climate change to procurement of local material systems, ownership and development models to the agency of people; these redefine the role of the architect in the making of the built environment. Made up of individual processes, responses, and proposals, the exhibition forms a collective manifesto for the future creation and care of the built environment.
About Time calls for significant and immediate action, using design to develop effective responses to the big environmental and social crises we face. This action must be about time.
Short-term, profit-driven development and the addiction to ‘newness’ are incompatible with planetary health and are reappraised here across a range of schemes. Alternative proposals that crucially consider the lifespan of buildings – from the immediate to the very long term – are displayed. Projects consider the importance of designing with time, not against it, to enable longevity, adaptability, and resilience in the built environment.
As a collective endeavour, this show asks:
