Project description
Public space is political space and its role is ever present in the city – but does political architecture hold the same potency for today’s climate?
The project questions the expression and experience of the architecture of British politics, envisioning the complete redefinition of both the Houses of Parliament and Parliament Square. ‘Landscapes of Debate’ transforms the site from a fortress-like private political territory, to a wholly new public political landscape. The dramatic expansion of public space enables a more permeable interface between the public and the government – built around shared space for public expression, encouraging political discourse through the simple act of walking.
