Project description
Technological advancements are undermining the established structures and certainties of human labour: what are the implications and opportunities for architecture? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to profoundly disrupt the nature of employment, with analyses suggesting that half of all current jobs are at risk of being supplanted. Consequently, there is an urgent need to reassess the impact of mass unemployment on construction, both systematically and spatially. The job centre has, therefore, been reconceptualised as a collegiate-style educational facility, where residents of Hackney acquire skills through construction, craft, and self-expression, and are, to the extent that it’s possible, unified by shared meaning, empathy, and imagination. In essence, a new form of living becomes a new way of building, and ultimately, a new way of making cities.
