Project description

With global temperatures increasing drastically, it is imperative the construction industry takes a radical shift away from the extractivist, linear norm toward a circular, bio-based alternative. Through the lens of an experimental housing scheme, Compostable City speculates how the use of bio-based materials will change the way we live in and ultimately dispose of our homes. The project uses materials that decompose back into the earth, fertilising the ground, when the time for demolition comes. The three typologies within the scheme offer three different ways of living in the compostable city; however all share an architectural language that views the building as a ‘living’ entity, requiring love, care, maintenance and repair.
