Project description
Hackney’s Home for the Others aims to reconnect London’s biodiversity through disused, brownfield sites along the river Lea. Utilising rhizome theory, the proposal feeds nutrients through the soil to extend through the city. The proposal aims to create an agrarian pocket within the urban fabric, in which cohabitation forms a new model for living with nature. Facade blocks host homes for birds or bees, whilst foundations are designed to integrate within the surrounding rootscape of the site. An Ecology School hosts pioneers in ecological research, which can be shared through workshops with local communities, while on-site housing forms an experimental example of the work within the school. Throughout the focus is on the integration of nature within the built fabric of the development.
