Project description
One Roof examines the conditions of cultural production in urban areas. These forms of production are often struggling to sustain themselves in the long term due to external pressures such as increasing land values. As neighbourhoods rise in popularity, gentrify and regenerate, spaces of cultural production become more vulnerable to be replaced by more financially competitive industries. The project explores a model of cultural production that introduces spaces where culture is created, distributed and consumed. As exhibition and performance spaces tend to fare better in competitive financial climates, the project becomes more robust against increasing economic pressures over time, allowing areas of cultural production to thrive.
