Project description
In the last few years Hackney’s welcoming legacy has faded, becoming more privatised to focus on commerce over community. As the city expands, this problem is only set to worsen.
Subjective City looks to challenge this, interrogating how cities can better contribute
to social encounters to promote the subjectivity of their citizens and their individual, particular perspective of the world. The project looks towards the positive effects of radical subjectivity, allowing people to better understand their role and identity within the city through the integration of social and commercial functions in the same space. The building re-integrates the functions and haphazard incidental encounters traditionally observed on the street back into the built fabric, encouraging interactions and community integration.
