Project description
With fuel poverty doubling in the past three years and energy related greenhouse emissions accounting for 80% of global pollution, how can we challenge perceptions of energy consumption and waste? And, how can an alternative architectural typology contribute to the retention of energy intensive industries, as well as industrial land and heritage in the city? The proposal is for an alternative cooperative owned mixed-use development called ‘Hackney De-Central’, where energy intensive industrial production directly powers new and existing housing. Retention and reuse of industrial land and a heritage asset prevents cultural decline of distinct urban characteristics and fosters a symbiotic relationship with time and energy for inhabitants.
