‘Light + Power reimagines public energy in public space. The project proposes a local heating hub on the site of the Clapton Bus Garage in Hackney Central. A mixed programme of open amenity space, a library and public baths is integrated into a publicly owned heating centre. Set in a context of high streets, night markets, a terraced residential area and a historic churchyard, the scheme offers an essential piece of urban infrastructure as public realm. A programme of material reuse and energy redistribution is privileged across the proposal, whilst the experiential qualities of heat, light and water are central to informing the architectural design and its details.
