Public Necessities

Adam Dudley-Mallick

Project description

Public Necessities offers a way to activate underused, unsafe sites that are proven too small for commercial development and reappraise them as locations for accessible toilets, water fountains, sheltered seating and kiosks – a range of urban furniture for a better and more well-serviced public realm. The scheme was initiated by an attempt to address the epidemic of loneliness (as identified), and neglected public space (as observed). The network of small spaces, structures and services display architectural characteristics that ensure they are clearly visible as a new metropolitan-wide intervention as well as adopting bespoke elements that identify them as local community assets.
