Project description
As London becomes a 24-hour city and its night-time economy continues to grow, it is important to consider the needs of the night-time workers who fuel this economy. 1 in 9 people in the UK work at night and the rise of the gig economy and big tech companies such as Deliveroo has changed the nature of that work. Workers face challenges related to safety, dignity and access to services, whilst food delivery riders, for example, are often denied access to basic indoor facilities to relax, use the toilet, or take shelter from the weather.
In Dalston, these challenges have resulted in recent protests, with workers demanding that spaces and infrastructure be provided to support them. Hi Viz proposes a network of 24-hour Rest Stops as well as a Night Workers’ Hub which will provide safety, dignity, and equality for night-time workers.
