Project description
Kingsland Living Centre explores the future of social interaction in urban centres. A future where shopping, making and living spaces blend together in an answer to the current problems of high streets’ decline, with vanishing small and large shops leaving no space for social interaction for the city’s inhabitants.
Kingsland Living Centre emphasises the importance of experience in space within retail, production and living spaces. This materialises on different scales. In the plan layout, through pockets of space which people can claim and move actions happening indoors to the outside. And in the facade design, through pockets of space created with the flowing planes dressed with terracotta tiles, which engage the senses through light and shadow and shimmering use of colour.
